Ontario's OHIP+ program takes effect

As of January 1, Ontario’s OHIP+ program took effect, providing free prescription drug coverage for individuals 24 and under for medicines listed in the Ontario Drug Benefit Formulary as well as eligible Exceptional Access Drugs.

As a reminder:
  • Coverage will be available regardless of family earnings or whether private insurance is in place
  • No deductible will apply

This may impact members of a plan if the employee is 24 or under or has a dependent such as a child or spouse who is.

The change is expected to have a positive impact on drug claims since OHIP+ will be the first payer for all covered drugs.

If you have any questions regarding transition plans or the overall impact to claims and rates please reach out to your Accompass consultant.
