Manulife announces changes to drug stop loss pooling

Manulife has made an announcement to increase its threshold for drug stop loss pooling to $12,500 per claimant per year for plans outside of Quebec participating in Extended Health Care with 50 or more employees. For smaller companies with fewer than 50 employees there is no change to the DSL pooling, and it remains at $10,000.

For employees who reside in Quebec, for plans participating in Extended Health Care with 50 or more employees will see the threshold for DSL pooling increase to the lower of:

  1. $12,500 per claimant per year (an increase from $10,000) or;
  2. the Canadian Drug Insurance Pooling Corporation ongoing threshold per certificate

For plans with fewer than 50 employees in Quebec only Quebec Drug Insurance Pooling Corporation pooling applies.
